About Us - Camphill Devon

‘Camphill Devon Community’ is a specialist provider of accommodation and support to adults with a learning disability and autism.

We offer residential provision at Hapstead Village in a beautiful rural setting on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park. Our Supported Living service provides support to people living within their own homes; both individual and shared – living accommodation. Whilst established originally as an ‘intentional community’ for people with learning disabilities Camphill Devon benefits from operating within a safe, spacious and rural environment, where all individuals contribute to making our community thrive, whilst also actively participating in the local neighbourhood as part of the wider community. All our services are provided within the locality of Buckfastleigh.

At Hapstead people live in one of six individualised houses, each with a different feel influenced by the personalities, interests and activities of the group. Each house is supported by a team of staff and volunteers, providing 24-7 support, including sleep-in cover overnight. Through our person-centred approaches everyone is encouraged to live an active and fulfilling life. We provide a wide range of arts, craft and land ‘workshops’ throughout the week, with a particular focus on recycling and using natural produce. Most people opt to participate in as many of these as possible, providing rhythm, structure and purpose to their week. Others choose to access activities in the local community; including sports, arts and leisure, as well as voluntary work, college and other opportunities to engage with the local area. Our aim is to support people to achieve the lifestyle they want, benefiting from a sense of community where people can make a contribution, and be supported by others.

As well as supporting people at Hapstead, Camphill Devon also provide a service to people who have their own tenancies in the local town.

Camphill Devon is a registered charity and is regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). We are independent from any other organisation, securing governance by our Board of Trustees.

We are a member of the Association of Camphill Communities and continue to reflect the foundations of the worldwide ‘Camphill movement’.

In common with other Camphill Communities we support people in all aspects of their life, including their spiritual and emotional needs, as well as the physical health of each individual; and in providing a community life where individual needs are mutually respected.
